Hurricane Electric (MFC Website Content)

Fast-growing international Internet provider Hurricane Electric is actively considering a Point of Presence (PoP) in MFC’s new Portland, Maine facility.   “HE” as they are known, operates its own global IPv4 and IPv6 network and is considered the largest IPv6 backbone in the world as measured by number of networks connected. Within its global network, HE is connected to over 150 major exchange points and exchanges traffic directly with more than 6,000 different networks. Employing a resilient fiber-optic topology, Hurricane Electric has no less than five redundant paths crossing North America, five separate paths between the U.S. and Europe, three separate paths between Asia and the US, rings in Europe and Asia as well as a path between the two continents.

Known for the quality of their network infrastructure and aggressive pricing, HE will help ensure that local Maine ISPs have access to nationally competitive wholesale Internet rates.   They specialize in high bandwidth requirements (Gigabit and greater) and exclusively use fiber optic interfaces, making the MFC Portland site a good fit.  Current plans have a Portland site being fed from Boston initially, with a possible interconnection to their Moncton, New Brunswick PoP in the future as part of their ongoing network expansion and redundant routing design.  If the Portland plans move forward, HE will also participate in the NNENIX exchange.  Interested parties should contact Reid Fishler directly.   You can also check out the maps on their website at
